This is a question that several health fanatics amongst us are raising: will I get cravings after taking in CBD? After all, smoking the cannabis plant does give you the strong urge to reach out for the packet of crisps and go down on it. For those amongst us who are wary of their caloric intake and the amount of food they are consuming, to help lose weight, getting the munchies will throw all the progress out of the window. So what is the answer? Read on to know.

Does CBD Give You The Munchies?

Short answer-No! The stereotype that “cannabis creates eating urges, so CBD has to as well “is nothing but hot air; a rumor spread by the uninformed. While CBD is obtained from sources including marijuana and hemp plants, the therapeutic drug takes close to no ill-effects of the parent cannabis plant. The appetite-inducing agent in marijuana is none other than the famed THC or tetrahydrocannabinol – it is known to stimulate hunger.

CBD on the other hand is clean of any such charge sheet. While full-spectrum hemp extract contains many other terpenes and aromatic compounds along with it, there is no science that states that it acts as an appetite stimulator. What is surprising is that it does quite the opposite!

CBD And The Endocannabinoid System

The CBD links primarily to the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is a system that is responsible for several metabolic functions. The intake of CBD causes an interaction with the CB1 receptor that is a part of the ECS. A study in 2013 showed how CBD binds to the CB1 and CB2 receptors, while a 2016 study showed CBD as a ‘stimulant’ to breakdown substances in the body that allow the breakdown of fats and enhances the ability to burn calories.

Does CBD Cause Loss Of Appetite?

This depends on the medical condition, at hand. Loss of appetite is a result of uneasiness of the mind, medications, or it can be a medical condition. Chronic pain, autoimmune diseases, Crohn’s disease, Cancer, etc cause a burn in the appetite of the patients. Most patients of such conditions have strong urges to nauseate and this makes the ordeal all the more terrible.

CBD use helps in acting as an antiemetic, that is, it reduces the feelings of nausea. Patients can better enjoy the food, which in turn helps in bettering the appetite. In such cases, CBD act as an appetite stimulator and otherwise does nothing to give you the munchies.
